South Pacific Goat

South Pacific goats were released into New Zealand by the early whalers and sealers. These days, hunting for mountain goats is widespread as this South Pacific species is scattered throughout both islands.

Many enjoy hunting the gregarious goat as a change to the rigors of big game deer hunting in New Zealand. Available in almost every size, shape and colour, the goat can grown horns up to 45 inches in length, with the largest billy goats carrying a wide spread over 30 inches.

The South Pacific Ram

Arapawa ram are the wild ram hunted in New Zealand, and are thought to have been introduced to the Chatham Islands in 1841 as a food source. Although wool was eventually clipped from this South Pacific species, the Arapawa is significantly different from farmed sheep.

The sheep are descended from Spanish Merinos or Bengal (known as Whaler’s sheep after they become feral).

SHELF LIFE OF DEPOSIT Deposits paid to Kaweka Hunting will retain their value 100% for a length of 3 years from date of payment. After 3 years, the deposit loses 25% value per year. NOTIFICATION OF CANCELLATION Kaweka Hunting Ltd must be notified directly of any cancellation by November 1 on the year before the contracted hunt date. Hunt dates can be freely altered without penalty until November 1. After November 1, the cancellation will be regarded as ‘short notice’. SHORT NOTICE CANCELLATIONS The hunter may incur a penalty of 25% of the contract value if the hunt dates cannot be ‘re booked’ by new contracts. REDUCTION IN PENALTY FOR SHORT NOTICE CANCELLATION Hunters who have cancelled with short notice may elect to be allocated dates for the rescheduled hunt for a 10% reduction in penalty from 25% to 15%. Date allocations for rescheduling will be made available between November 1 and November 10 each year on a ‘first come first served’ basis. TRANSFER OF DEPOSIT TO ANOTHER DATE IN SAME SEASON If a hunter needs to alter a hunt date to another date within the same season, this can be done without any financial penalty provided the alternate date is available.
